Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the isolated trekking regions which offer several thrilling trekking routes and mountain ranges which is offering all the classic aspects of a great trek. While doing this trekking it has an experience like no other has and the trek has a journey through dramatic and varied landscape and is a worthwhile trek in its own right.

There are traditional settlements of the Gurung people along the trail and other people of Tibetan ethnicity also live in this region. This trek is one of the ideal options for anyone who is looking for an off-the-beaten trekking experience with wonderful views of the magnificent Himalayans like Manaslu, Himlung, Cheo Himal, and many more.

Manalsu Circuit Accommodation

There are so many tea-house is opened nowadays on this route where you have to book in advance. This trekking route is one of the busiest trekking routes all over Nepal which is why you have to book in advance. In this route, the tea house is made of a traditional type of Nepalese house where there are used for the joint family in the rural hills and Himalayas side of Nepal and you will sleep in the tea-house every night which is very basic with two single beds. During the time trekking, we will stay at the best trekking lodges on this route where you will have typical Nepalese food.

The lodges are comfortable with two single beds in a room within a typical territory for dinners and unwinding which is an incredible spot to remain warm around the fire. Along the trail, only the typical Nepalese food is served to provide you with enough energy and nutrients to continue the trekking and the facilities along the trail of this trek are pretty basic. Tea-house trekking is the place along the way where accommodation and food are provided and on the route, you will rarely find western food, and the rest of you will have Nepalese food.

Manslu Circuit Etrance Permit

The government rules also state there must be a minimum of two trekkers in a group and your permit must be processed through a registered agency. The remoteness of the Manaslu region in the Himalayas makes a trekking adventure an experience of a lifetime and the Manaslu circuit trek permit is one of the many questions that people ask. For trekking on this route, we need three trekking permits required and the government of Nepal has specific requirements for trekking in this region. An entry permit is non-fundable as well as non-transferable and valid for a single entry and the entry permit will not be issued from any check post.

In Nepal, there are 15 different areas that are restricted and the restricted zone begins from Jagat until Bhimtang. The permit cost for the Manaslu trek depends on the month and number of days will spend in this region. For a special trekking permit, you have to pay USD20 per person within a certain period of time you don’t complete trekking then you have to pay USD25 per person per day and a single trekker is not allowed you have at least two groups of people for trekking in this route.

This permit for entry is only valid for individual trekkers and the holder of the permit can only enter the selected sites within the conservation area where the permit must be carried throughout the entire trip. This is easy as well as just driving to the Nepal Tourism Board and paying the permit fee in the local currency where the trekking permit cost is a little bit more expensive than in popular trekking areas in the Himalayas.

How Difficult is it to Trek the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The trek is a moderately difficult trek and the physical conditions of the trekkers have a lot to do with the Manaslu trek difficulty which is one of the challengings in Nepal that takes you through the remote village of the Himalayan ranges. The physical condition of the trekkers has a lot to do with this trek difficulty is the best choice for trekkers seeking adventure. Nepal has been a major draw for the trekkers who are ready to trade it all for just a glance and when it comes to visiting the country for trekking.

It is a great option if you are looking for an authentic, wilder, and true remote region, and it is a less far-traveled trek compared to the other classic treks in Nepal.

Trekkers should pass several ups and downs to complete this trek where you have to pass off-the-beaten trials trekkers get complete excitements. To preserve and cultural beauty of the region which is also for the safety cause of trekkers no one is allowed to do trek individually. People are concerned if they will be able to do it and as a high-altitude trekking adventure where the trek has a strenuous difficulty level.  It is used to be the difficulty level of trekking but it is not tough as it used to be.

What is the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The Manaslu Circuit takes you around Mount Manaslu (8,163m) — the 8th highest mountain in the world. It offers:

  • Diverse landscapes (lush forests to alpine tundra)
  • Tibetan-influenced culture
  • Breathtaking views without the crowds

How long does the trek take?

Most itineraries range from 14 to 18 days, including travel to/from Kathmandu and acclimatization days.

When is the best time to trek?

Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November) are ideal.
These seasons bring clear skies, moderate temperatures, and the best views.

What permits do I need?

  • Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP)
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

You must be in a minimum group of two with a licensed guide. Solo trekking is not permitted.

How do I get there?

Most treks begin with a drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (8–10 hours). From there, you’ll walk north through villages like Jagat, Samagaon, and cross Larkya La Pass (5,106m) — the trek’s highest point.

How difficult is the trek?

The trek is moderately challenging. Be prepared for:

  • 6–8 hours of walking daily
  • High-altitude conditions
  • A steep ascent to Larkya La Pass

Good fitness is required. Prior trekking experience helps, but isn’t mandatory.

Where do I sleep and eat?

Teahouses (guesthouses) provide basic lodging and hot meals throughout the route.
Expect simple, hearty meals: dal bhat, soups, noodles, pancakes, and tea.

What should I pack?

  • Warm clothing (layers + down jacket)
  • Waterproof jacket and boots
  • Sleeping bag (rated to -10°C or colder)
  • Headlamp, water purification, sunscreen, first aid kit
  • Power bank or solar charger (limited electricity)

Is there phone or internet access?

Mobile signal is limited or nonexistent in higher areas.
Some teahouses offer Wi-Fi for a fee, but it’s slow. Disconnect and enjoy the mountains!

How much does it cost?

On average: $1,000 to $1800 USD per person
(Includes guide, permits, transport, meals, accommodation)

Costs vary based on group size, itinerary, and trekking agency.

Trek Highlights

  • Larkya La Pass (5,106m) – epic panoramic views
  • Samagaon & Samdo – traditional Tibetan villages
  • Birendra Lake – glacial blue gem near Manaslu base camp
  • Cultural immersion – experience local customs, monasteries, and mountain hospitality

What about altitude sickness?

The risk is real, especially above 3,000m.
Acclimatize slowly, stay hydrated, and listen to your body.
Travel insurance must include emergency evacuation coverage.

Final Tips

  • Book through a reliable trekking company
  • Bring passport-size photos for permits
  • Leave no trace — carry out all plastic and waste

If you are looking for a fulfilling and exciting trekking experience in the Himalayas, I highly recommend securing the services of Megh Gurung and Kingdom Treks.

I have twice joined teams that Megh guided to Poon Hill in the Annapurna Range, and both times I was amazed by the breathtaking beauty of the mountains, and by Megh’s outstanding service and attention to detail. An extra benefit is his wit, humor, and warm personality. Megh leadership made both treks memorable, fun, and truly unforgettable. You can’t go wrong choosing Kingdom Treks.

Great trip! Megh and Sammy took care of everything. From food, to logistics, to accommodation. Couldn’t have been better.

Looking back, the entire trip was amazing but also challenging because of the altitudes and climbing involved. We all did make it.

Everything was taken care of for us in terms of arrangements and airport transfers. Our guide Megh met us at the airport in Kathmandu, arranged our lodging, meals, flights to and from Lukla, shopping for gear extras in town. All our lodging on the trips was also reserved for us. Meals were all served in the lodges. Megh was on the trek with us along with porters who took our gear. We carried day packs.
You should plan 3 weeks minimum for this trip and it will require at least 2 days acclimatization. If I remember correctly, as we got higher, we may have as much as 9 days above 14,000 ft and with that, peaks still rose around us another 4-5 thousand feet if not more. You also should to be in condition for this trek. I also had mild altitude sickness at base camp but did not need intervention. So it is recommended that you learn as much as possible about how to prepare for a trek like this. But the rewards may be well worth it, as some of our photos may illustrate.Consider adding more days for touring in Kathmandu or even for a visit to India on the way home like we did (also arranged by Megh)

I had an absolutely incredible experience with Kingdom Treks, a top-notch trekking company in Nepal that made my Himalayan adventure unforgettable! Megh and their team delivered a perfectly organized, culturally immersive, and awe-inspiring journey that exceeded all expectations. As someone new to high-altitude trekking, I felt reassured by their focus on safety and flexibility gave me confidence throughout the journey. Megh was phenomenal—knowledgeable, warm, and always ready with fascinating insights about Nepalese culture and the landscapes we explored. Megh’s team, including the hardworking porters, went above and beyond, ensuring we had comfortable teahouse accommodations with hearty meals and jaw-dropping mountain views. Highly Recommend!

As a Canadian female, I’ve trekked with Megh on two trips to Nepal. When we met the first time, I came with a trekking group, we instantly clicked and I now call him “my Nepali dad”. Which he embodies for everyone–he is kind, honest, genuine, and of course, a pro at leading any kind of trek (and making it fun). I went back again a few years later by myself and Megh went above and beyond–picked me up from the airport and helped me navigate busy Kathmandu and Mt. Everest base camp as a solo female. He’s become a lifelong friend of over a decade now, we still keep in touch! If you want a professional who’s been in the game for many years, and someone you can genuinely trust, trek with Megh!

Mustafa E

Wonderful Country and fantastic people.. You can trust Meg and his team with your life literally… I made also friends for life and will do the same journey again soon.. Many thanks Mero Sathi..

Agnes Bonne

Megh and his team were amazing!
What a great experience to climb in the Himalayas. Half way of the Mont Everest! Never though I could do it but with their wisdom, encouraging words along the way and God, I made it!
Hallelujah the Himalayas … there is a God and Megh with his team. I really suggest anyone to go even if you don’t go that high.. just tell Megh what you can and want to do and he will personalize your trip. A must do without any hesitation.

I Enjoyed having Megh Gurung as a Guide

Megh Gurung was an excellent guide and was easy to work with on my group trek to Everest Base Camp. I recommend him to anyone interested in a guided trek in Nepal. If you are trying to decide whether or not to use a guide while trekking, my recommendation is to do so as they add a lot to the experience.
